Francis I bestows a privilege on a printer, who becomes the ‘King's Printer for Greek’.
King Louis XIII transformed this printing house into the Manufacture Royale de l'Imprimerie, which would later become the Imprimerie Royale (Royal Printing Works). It then moved to the Louvre.
The printing house becomes the Imprimerie nationale (National Printing Works).
The Imprimerie Nationale opens a location in Douai.
By the law of 31/12/93, the Imprimerie Nationale became the Imprimerie Nationale S.A., a private limited company with state capital.
The first smart cards are produced in the workshop dedicated to plastic cards.
Departure from the la Convention site (Paris 15th) and establishment on boulevard Gouvion-Saint-Cyr (Paris 17th). The Imprimerie Nationale reorganises its activities around secure documents intended mainly for governments. The fiduciary workshops are grouped together on the single Douai site and fully modernised and secured.
The 1st personalised electronic passport is produced in Douai.
Launch by the Imprimerie Nationale in September 2013 of the new French electronic driving licence, the first European licence with an electronic chip.

IN Groupe and our Livre d’art et de l’Estampe workshop
The Livre d’art et de l’Estampe workshop is a living and tangible heritage that IN Groupe wished to continue operating through our own funding. Founded in 1640, the workshop is rooted in the history of typographic writing, with a collection of 700,000 engraved items, including 500,000 Latin and Oriental stamps classified as Historical Monuments, and a specialised library with 35,000 volumes from the 16th century to the present day. Considered to be the oldest printing workshop in the world still in operation, it embodies the IN Groupe's high-level expertise, a modern company with our sights set resolutely on the future and new technologies, constantly reinventing ourselves in this creative intersection of tradition and modernity.
